A beast of a gift!

Also for my birthday in November, my wonderful girlfriend Lauren decided it was time for me to step it up another notch and bought me this awesome looking piece, the Khorne Chaos Lord on Juggernaut

In contrast to my previous figures this guy is cast in tin and has required a great deal of work before being ready to assemble. However, both rider and mount have now been glued together and I'm currently working on filling gaps etc with some Liquid Green Stuff. Next step will be undercoating which I thankfully now have a spray can for...

I decided to undercoat and paint rider and mount separably and not assemble until all foundation layers are painted...

I've yet to decide on a colour-scheme as well, but the general idea would be to match him up with my red/gold Chaos Warriors and hopefully get something along the lines of this

A place to paint...

Slowly getting an increasing amount of paint pots, tools and brushes I found myself moving all these bits and bobs around a lot (since I like to sit in different places around the apartment to paint). It was therefor heaven-sent when my sister gave me the Citadel Paint Station for my 28'th year birthday (Nov 2011)

The thing has quickly been filled up (and already had its share of spilled paint) and is now the platform which around all my painting takes place:D

Stepping it up a notch!

After my self-declared success with my regiment of Goblin warriors (see previous post) I decided it was time for a greater challenge and some more advanced miniatures... 

After spending a lengthy amount of time on Games Workshop's webpage I fell in love with the Warriors of Chaos armies... Those guys are like sadistic evil goth vikings on blood-drugs! Whats not to like, the models are just beautiful... So during my next visit to England I picked up a regiment of 12 Chaos Warriors

Now these guys required more assembly, each miniature consisting of 6 pieces (base, legs+torso, cloak, head and 2 arms with weapons/shield). After being cut out and polished (removing any mold defects etc with a file and scalpel) one warrior look something like this pile

Next step is to undercoat everything with Chaos Black. I elected to coat and do my foundation colours on the individual pieces before assembly as it allows me to easier paint each part

I found a really nice paint guide on the official webpage and printed that for reference while starting with my foundation colours.. The overall colour-scheme is red armor (Mechrite Red) and gold

The cloak is painted Charadon Granite with Calthan Brown fur 

Horns one the helmets are painted Bleached Bone and gold on the metal parts

Over a year had now passed since I started my first Goblins and finally my warriors was starting to take shape as well :D After both torso, cloak and heads were finished (at least with base colours) there were glued together to get a better impression of the regiment

Since Christmas (2011) I've now gotten most weapons painted as well and assembled 9 out 12 warriors.. Next step will be a wash and then I get to start working on some highlights :D

A small beginning...

When a guy reaches a certain age and have been spending money on toys and gadgets (way to much money for way to long), it starts becoming harder and harder to keep coming up with birthday and Christmas wishes...
Last year for my birthday (November 2010) someone suggested Warhammer miniatures from Games Workshop. Since I've always loved fantasy, science fiction and anything geeky I thought "hmm...why not".. However the thought about tediously painting those small things for hours kinda put me off since I'm not the most patient person...*at all*! In the end I decided to give it a try since I thought  patience is something that could learned... So for my 26'th year birthday my dear sister gave me the following box:

Needless to say this thing took my quite some time to finish, but in the end I was very surprised and very happy with the result! So guess Games Workshop did a good job with these starter sets:P I didn't take many pictures during the process back then, but here are still a few...

Assembled Goblin (2 piece - base and figure itself)

After undercoating with Chaos Black and a few layers of colour followed by a wash with Devlan Mud I got the following result:

I elected one goblin as a leader and gave him a Bleached Bone cloak instead, followed by some dry brushed                           Knarlock Green (just to try out the technique)... Here's a closeup of the "Goblin Gandalf"

In the meantime I had also acquired some static grass which really helps make the bases come alive

Adding grass to the remaining group of goblins this is my final results as it still stands :D
